Roast Turkey

A classic Roast Turkey recipe perfect for your Thanksgiving feast, easy to prepare and full of flavor.

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Thaw the turkey. If frozen, put the turkey in the fridge for 2-3 days to thaw.
  2. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  3. Remove the turkey giblets from inside and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  4. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey and sprinkle salt, pepper, thyme, and rosemary on top.
  5. Stuff the turkey with the lemon and onion quarters.
  6. Place the turkey breast side up in a large roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  7. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast for about 2-3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  8. Remove the turkey from the oven, take off the foil, and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

Notes

For crispy skin, start with a thawed and dry turkey. Baste the turkey with pan juices every hour for extra flavor and moisture.
