Homemade Cheesy Breadsticks

Delicious homemade cheesy breadsticks that are soft, slightly crispy, and loaded with melted mozzarella cheese. A perfect snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: ¼ cup cheddar or Gruyère cheese

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in flour, salt, and olive oil until the dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 45–60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and transfer it to the baking sheet.
  6. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with garlic and Italian seasoning, then top with mozzarella (and cheddar if using).
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Make sure the water is warm to the touch to activate the yeast without killing it. Knead well for a nice texture.
