A delicious and easy breakfast dish that is perfect for feeding a crowd, combining all the classic flavors of French toast into one baked dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread, cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter (for greasing)
  • Maple syrup (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture and gently fold to combine.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
  6. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

For best texture, use day-old bread. Allow the casserole to rest to help the bread absorb the liquids.
