Description

A delightful breakfast that combines classic crème brûlée flavors with French toast, perfect for brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of thick bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for caramelizing)
  • Optional: berries or powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, ensuring both sides are coated, and place in a greased baking dish.
  3. Pour any remaining egg mixture over the bread.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Bake the French toast for 30-35 minutes until it is puffed and golden.
  7. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize it until it’s golden and crispy.
  8. Let it set for a few minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm, topped with berries or powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For the best texture, use thick bread and let it sit overnight for richer flavor.
