Classic French Chocolate Cake

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan with butter and dust it with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve with powdered sugar, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, or fresh berries. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
