Christmas Morning French Toast Bread Pudding

A delightful recipe combining the rich flavors of traditional French toast with the cozy warmth of bread pudding, perfect for Christmas breakfast.

  • 1 loaf of bread (preferably challah or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Fresh berries for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the greased baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they are well-coated.
  5. If desired, drizzle maple syrup over the top.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes until the top is golden and the center is set.
  8. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by fresh berries.

Notes

Use stale bread for best results. Refrigerating overnight allows flavors to meld.
