Description
Juicy meatballs infused with the rich flavors of French onion soup and topped with melty cheese, perfect for cozy family dinners.
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef (or a mix)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or cheddar)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp butter
- Herbes de Provence (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and garlic, cooking until golden and caramelized.
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and the cooked onions and garlic. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs de Provence if desired.
- Form meatballs the size of golf balls.
- Place the meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
- Meanwhile, heat the beef broth in a large pot. Add the cooked meatballs into the broth for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Serve the meatballs on plates and top with grated cheese. Melt the cheese under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until crispy.
Notes
Serve hot with crusty bread, pasta, or over rice. Feel free to add more cheese for extra flavor!
